Because art and beauty give you the eyes to see...
As we move closer and closer to the artificial life within our culture, we move further away from natural beauty and lose connection to the sacred. I believe we open the door and invite despair into our hearts and minds when we sever ourselves from beauty, or worse still, when we exchange utility for beauty, as I once did.
Beauty begins with God himself, and nature is his clarion call, speaking to us through its intricate design. The created world calls us to reverence and wonder.Â
In contrast, our postmodern culture calls us to desecration and disrespect.
But is beauty necessary?
We are desperate for a re-attunement. While the invitation is open to all, we need people to point us back towards beauty so we stop elevating ourselves above the sacred. In my own small corner of the world, I’ve submitted to the call. Seeking beauty in the everyday has been the invitation to my own healing from traumas and heartaches, and has moved me to worship. My hope is to encourage you in the same way.
A Life Artist
We exist to worship. Participating in beauty, seeking beauty, honoring beauty, and sharing beauty, is in itself an act of worship.
I look to replicate beauty through my art, pointing you to the tender and simple hospitality of a garden, where I have found and continue to accept mending of my hurts. It has been the tending of my own garden, of the delicate colors in that mixed landscape of fruits, vegetables, insects, soil, and above all, flowers, that has helped me to cherish beauty in nature. All right outside my back door. It nourishes my soul, pulls up in me a distinct humility, and leaves me in wonder of my Creator. Every single time.
